National Trust Preservation Funds – Deadline October 1, 2009
National Trust Preservation Funds provide two types of assistance to nonprofit organizations and public agencies: 1) matching grants from $500 to $5,000 for preservation planning and educational efforts, and 2) intervention funds for preservation emergencies.

Matching grant funds may be used to obtain professional expertise in areas such as architecture, archaeology, engineering, preservation planning, land-use planning, fund raising, organizational development and law as well as to provide preservation education activities to educate the public.

An Evening with Amy Beach
7:30 pm Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Sugar Hill Meeting House
The North Country Chamber Players, in conjunction with former New Hampshire Poet Laureate (1999-2004) Marie Harris, will present a music and verse narration of the life of Amy Beach, noted American pianist and composer and native of Henniker, N.H. This tribute to Beach was conceived by Harris as a result of research connected with a book she is writing for young readers. The music was arranged by the North Country Chamber Players for this performance and will include selections of Beach’s chamber compositions and art songs.

Chamber Players regulars performing in this concert will include pianist Bernard Rose, violinist Miki-Sophia Cloud, and cellist Chris Finckel; they will be joined by well-known New York based sopranos Katharine Dain and Alison Wonderland.

Marek Bennett
Marek Bennett of Henniker has just published a new graphic novel, NICARAGUA Comics Travel Journal. The book documents his work traveling from school to school in Nicaragua last winter with the Henniker-San Ramón Comics Exchange, a program that receives funding from the N.H. State Council on the Arts. The book will be available in October on Bennett's website, www.marekbennett.com (where readers can download a free 24-page sample PDF excerpt) and through various comics distributors. Bennett is also doing readings this Fall to share his work for the Henniker-San Ramón Sister Community Project, a volunteer-based solidarity project operating between New Hampshire and Nicaragua.

“Future Memories,” an exhibit of sculpture by John Weidman of Brookline, N.H., is on display at the Rivier College Art Gallery in Nashua through October 30, 2009. For information about the show, visit www.rivier.edu.

Jennifer Militello
Flinch of Song, a collection by poet Jennifer Militello of Goffstown, is now available from Tupelo Press (http://www.tupelopress.org/books_recent.php). Militello, who teaches at River Valley Community College, was a 2009 N.H. Artist Fellow.
